フィリマコ・ブラックのアルバム"Hohou Te Rongo"

　二年以上前に、アオテアロア・ニュージーランドのニュープリマスの博物館で買い求めたフィリマコ＝ブラック(Whirimako Black)の"Hohou Te Rongo"というアルバムがある。
　これは、Whirimako Blackにとっての二枚目のアルバムで、タイトルのhohou rongoは、マオリ語で、make peace, conciliate, reconcile, pacifyという意味だ。アルバムには、サブタイトルとして、cultivate peaceとあるから、「平和を耕す」「平和を育む」ほどの意味だろう。私の大好きな愛聴盤である。
　このアルバムの中に、メロディとして私の好きな"Kei hea taku reo"という唄がある。私の印象では、これはマオリ語の復権の唄だ。
　また、"Kei rite ki te moa"も好きだ。これは、アピラナ・ナータ卿(Sir Apirana Ngata)のことを歌っている。

　Whirimako Blackのアルバムでは、この"Hohou Te Rongo"もいれて、アオテアロア・ニュージーランドで以下の二枚を買い求めた。

  • Tangihaku(2004)
  • Hohou Te Rongo(2002)

　一番最初に買い求めたTangihakuは、マオリ学部の受付の女性たちに教えてもらったものだ。
　ところでWhirimako Blackは、残念ながら現在のところ、Amazonでは、扱っていないようだ。
　今回、HMVで扱っていたものがあったので、以下の二枚を注文してみた。

　A Whirimako Black's album entitled "Hohou Te Rongo."
　More than two years ago, I purchased the album at a museum in New Plymouth, Aotearoa New Zealand.
　This is Whirimako Black's second album, and the title “Hohou Te Rongo” means “make peace, conciliate, reconcile, pacify” in Māori. The album is subtitled “Cultivate Peace,” which could be interpreted as 'heiwa wo tagayasu' or "heiwa wo hagukumu" in Japanese. The album is one of my favorites.
　One of the songs on this album There is a song on this album called "Kei Hea Taku Reo." I particularly like its melody. In my opinion, it is a beautiful song about the restoration of the Māori language.
　I also like "Kei Rite Kite Moa," a song about Sir Apirana Ngata.

　In Aotearoa New Zealand, I purchased two Whirimako Black albums, including "Hohou Te Rongo."

While in Aotearoa New Zealand, I was studying Māori language along with TESOL at the University of Waikato.
One day while visiting the Māori Faculty, I heard music echoing in the corridor, which immediately impressed me. I asked the ladies at the reception who the performer was. They told me the title and the singer, “Tangihaku” by Whirimako Black. Needless to say, I bought her CD within a few days.
　Unfortunately, Whirimako Black's albums are currently unavailable here in Japan, even on Amazon.
　However, HMV had a few, so I ordered these two albums.
